Giving Societies

Lawrenceville will emerge even more inclusive—championing a world of ideas and developing exceptional students from all backgrounds, regardless of their economic circumstances.

John Cleve Green Society

It was through the foresight and generosity of the Society’s namesake, John Cleve Green, that the School was purchased in 1879 from Samuel M. Hamill, recreated in the tradition of the older New England academies, and brought to international prominence before the turn of the century. The remarkable legacy of John Cleve Green and his generous heirs includes much that gives Lawrenceville its distinctive character today. The Circle Houses, Memorial Hall, Upper House, Edith Memorial Chapel, and most of the land on which the School is situated are all part of this extraordinary legacy.

The John Cleve Green Society honors and seeks to perpetuate this distinguished tradition of giving at Lawrenceville. Participation in any of Lawrenceville’s planned giving programs—including bequests, life income arrangements, and other deferred gifts—automatically qualifies donors for membership in the John Cleve Green Society.

The 1810 Loyalty Society

We are proud to introduce a new giving society, The 1810 Loyalty Society, which honors our most loyal donors. Named after Lawrenceville's founding year, this society recognizes donors who have made a gift to Lawrenceville, at any level, for three or more consecutive years, and those who have made a multi-year gift commitment. Over 2,000 members of our community belong to The 1810 Loyalty Society and are vital to the success of our fundraising efforts each year.

Red & Black Leadership Society

The generosity of our most outstanding donors drives the transformation that is a hallmark of the Lawrenceville experience. While we are grateful for gifts of any size, leadership gifts are critical to the success of The Lawrenceville Fund and The Parents Fund each year. Through their gifts to The Lawrenceville Fund, Red & Black donors provide the foundation for the exceptional teaching, innovative programs, and unique traditions that make our School a place like no other.

Membership in the Red & Black Leadership Society begins at $2,500 with special provisions for Lawrenceville's young alumni. A leadership gift to The Lawrenceville Fund each year is one of the most significant declarations you can make of your commitment to Lawrenceville’s mission—and a powerful way to ensure that young people emerge courageously as the individuals they were always meant to be.

Sixth Form

In a letter dated September 20, 1994, Peter Lawson-Johnston '45 GP'95 '98 '15 '18, president of Lawrenceville’s Board of Trustees at the time, noted that the School had "been searching for an earnest, dignified, and companionable way" to thank its most distinguished supporters. Fellow trustee Tom Shutt '50 suggested establishing a special "class" to honor these exceptionally generous donors—The Sixth Form.

While membership in The Sixth Form has grown significantly since its inception—now spanning the globe—but this exclusive group of alumni, parents, and friends of Lawrenceville retains its original camaraderie. The first Sixth Form dinner was hosted by Ambassador John Irwin '33 and his wife, Jane, at their home in New York City, and members continue to trade hosting duties for this cherished event, gathering annually to celebrate their shared affinity for the School.
